Leah and I have known Kyle and Katie for years and they’re the type of people that you always wish you had been able to hang out with more. They live in Idaho so we don’t see them often, but they recently came to the Oregon Coast and I was able to meet up with them to meet their beautiful daughter and take their family photos. Even though we didn’t get the golden light I was hoping for, it wasn’t windy, and for the Oregon Coast that’s plenty nice enough for me.

I’m always struck, when doing a session with friends, what a fun experience it is for me to watch them interact as a family, it’s like I’m an outsider getting to watch all of these beautiful moments they share. Here’s what I captured….

Kyle and Katie, thanks so much for hiring me to take your family photos, and for taking time out of your vacation (not that having photos taken isn’t like a vacation in and of itself :) ), to spend the evening with me. As always it was so great to see you guys and wonderful to meet Isabelle.

Christina and Thomas’ wedding was so much fun, we got such great light and it was at the coast, a very beautiful place. Combine all these things and you’ve got one stoked (and slightly nerdy), photographer.

I watch so many different couples interact in my work, and I love watching how each couple is unique and beautiful. I never get tired of this, which is part of why I love my job so much. Christina and Thomas most certainly have a beautiful connection, they laugh together, joke together, and when they get close they’re quiet and joyful together. It was truly a delight to spend the day on the coast with Christina and Thomas and all of their friends and families.

These are the nice guys who graciously let us borrow their giant hole in the sand…A little girl walked up to Christina and handed her this bouquet of flowers she’d been collecting, she was too shy so her mom spoke, “she wanted you to have these…”  So sweet…

Christina and Thomas, thank you so much for having me shoot your wedding, it’s been so fun getting to know you guys and I’m so grateful to have gotten to capture the moments of your wedding day.

They are both such fun, creative and interesting people and I’m really thankful that they hired me to shoot their wedding. My favorite thing to watch with them is how comfortable Kalina is with Jason. When they would stand close together I could see that she was completely comforted by Jason and felt so peaceful and loved. It’s the kind of thing that makes me hope that Leah feels the same way when she’s with me.

Jason and Kalina, thank you so much for letting me share your wedding day with you. I had such a wonderful time and was so inspired by your love for one another.

It’s so near to my heart and beautiful that there’s no way that my words can ever describe it. All I can say is that my life is completely changed. I’ve never been more proud of Leah after seeing her give birth and I’ve never felt love like the love that I feel for my son.

We’re back home and all is well. We’ve started the journey of trying to figure out how to be parents, and we’re…..well….figuring it out, slowly. We’re cherishing every moment and experiencing beautiful firsts.

We can’t say enough great things about the care and experience we received at our birth center Bella Vie. Our midwife Patricia and all of the midwives who cared for us were amazing and knew exactly what we needed. We are so grateful that they were a part of the birth and can’t express our thankfulness to Patricia, Tina, Angie, Jennifer, Crystal and Sarananda. You are all amazingly brilliant women with beautiful hearts. We are honored to know you. Thank you.

Here’s some photos from the birth that the amazing Emily G took. I knew Emily was an amazing photographer and person, but these photos have completely blown my mind and her presence at the birth was wonderful. Leah and I have looked at them at least 100 times, to help us re-tell the story of Wellington’s birth. We are so thankful that Emily gave up the hours to capture this event for us and we will always treasure these photos.

Thank you to all of you who have shown us so much patience. We know lots of you are waiting on previews and blog posts, and thank you for allowing us to prioritize our family and cherish this beginning.

We hope everyone’s Monday is full of beautiful moments, ours definitely is. Thank you for all of your support and love, it means everything to us.

Staci was actually the first person Bryan ever took maternity pictures of when she was pregnant with little Ella. It’s so amazing to get to watch a family grow and change like this.
